North and South America, unlike the Middle East or Sub-Saharan Africa, are not among the traditional areas of activity of the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta. In recent years, however, the organisation has launched or taken part in several humanitarian initiatives, primarily in Latin America, but also in North America. At the same time, we maintain active links with Hungarian diaspora communities in North America, with particularly close cooperation with the Hungarian community in Minnesota.

In Venezuela and Colombia, having gained insight into the challenges arising from economic inequalities and the severe, often unparalleled poverty faced by local communities, the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta has provided in-kind and financial assistance on multiple occasions. The Middle East, as the cradle of Christianity, has held particular significance for the organisation since its establishment, largely influenced by our former president, the late Father Imre Kozma. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta implemented numerous humanitarian aid programmes, primarily in Lebanon, Jordan and the Palestinian Autonomous Territories.

Asia and the Pacific Islands are the regions most affected by disasters worldwide. For those living here, human and natural crises are part of everyday reality. Despite the remarkable economic performance of certain parts of Asia, more than a quarter of the world’s conflicts take place in the region, and two-thirds of the world’s poor also live here. The Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta has been active in parts of Asia for many years.
